Whilst the piazza’s restoration was a great success commercially, it also respected the historical and architectural integrity of one of London’s greatest squares. Moreover, it offered Londoners a new and unusual shopping experience, including specialist shops not available elsewhere in London.

However, high volumes of visitors to the piazza and surrounding areas would bring their own challenges, including good management and maintaining the high standards set by the restoration. There were also challenges around keeping public spaces public, and retaining that special mix of retail and restaurants only offered by Covent Garden.
